Though your summer is probably packed with camps and camping, beach time and other adventures, it isn’t summer break without some summer reading. We’ve rounded up our favorite picture books for kids, from magical fairy escapades to a parrot’s adventures and more.
The Endless Game

Comedy television writer, showrunner and producer J.D. Amato grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago. J.D.’s childhood inspired his debut middle graphic novel “The Endless Game,” a coming-of-age story that follows new kid Fred in the fictional town of Lakeside, Illinois. When Fred gets recruited into an intense, decades-long game of capture the flag in his new town, he grapples with fitting in and making friends. Recommended for ages 8-12.
The Adventures of Herman, A Very Special Parrot

Puck the Playful Fairy

Former educator and children’s yoga instructor Jackie Gill releases “Puck the Playful Fairy,” the third installment in her Enchanted Forest series, which introduces a new fairy navigating a different emotional skill. Puck is a playful fairy with an endless well of energy and imagination, but he can have a hard time slowing down his body and mind. When his dad teaches him a game that helps him focus his thoughts, Puck realizes slowing down can be fun, too.
